Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) was established in 1961 and is one of the top engineering and research institutes sprawling over 320 Acres in the Hauz Khas region of Delhi. The institute has two other satellite campuses located in Sonipat and Jhajjar. The international campus of IIT Delhi is located in Abu Dhabi. According to the NIRF Ranking 2023, IIT Delhi is ranked “2” in the engineering category and “3” in the overall category. Further, IIT Delhi Ranking has risen 47 places from 197 to 150 in the QS World University Ranking 2025.

IIT Delhi’s most popular courses include B.Tech and M.Tech. B.Tech Admission at IIT Delhi is done based on JEE Advanced followed by JOSAA Counselling whereas for M.Tech admission, the institute accepts GATE Scores followed by COAP Counselling followed by Written Test & Interview. IIT Delhi Admission 2024

IIT Delhi Admission 2024 is open. The institute accepts national-level entrance exams such as JEE-Main, JEE-Advanced, GATE, UCEED, IIT JAM, CAT Scores for admission to its various courses. The most opted course at IIT Delhi includes B.Tech & M.Tech.

  • After qualifying for the JEE-Main, candidates are required to pass the JEE Advanced to gain admission to the B.Tech program. The successful candidates shall then be required to participate in the counselling of the allocation of seats based on their ranks and preferences by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority JoSAA.
  • For M.Tech Admission, IIT Delhi accepts GATE scores. Candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the GATE examination and are invited for further interview rounds as per the requirements specified by a particular department on the official website.
  • MBA admissions are conducted through the Common Admission Test (CAT) and candidates who are selected are further called for GD & PI.

IIT Delhi Placement 2024

IIT Delhi students have received over 1050 job offers, including pre-placement offers (PPOs), with around 1000 candidates being specifically picked after the conclusion of Phase 1 of the Placement Season for the academic year 2023–24.

IIT Delhi Scholarship

Students enrolling in various courses at IIT Delhi are offered a variety of scholarship options and financial support to help them manage their finances and meet academic and other expenses during the program. The institute provides its students with both external and internal scholarships based on their qualifications and scores. A student must fulfill certain minimum requirements to qualify for a scholarship or grant.

The following are some of the most well-known scholarship initiatives at IIT Delhi:

Scholarship by Merit Cum Means: 

  • The MCM (Merit Cum Means) Scholarships are available to students enrolled in M.Sc. or engineering and technology programs at the university level.
  •  Only 25% of students are authorized to receive this prize according to the Institute’s rules.
  • The students of IIT Delhi, whose parents’ annual earnings or family income is more than INR 4.5 Lakh.
  • A monthly reward of INR 1000 is given to students from GEN, OBC or EWS categories and they are not required to cover the cost of training.
  • For all students falling under the SC, ST, or PwD categories, there is no tuition to pay.

Support for Research:

  • Students who are willing to work for the department and are enrolled in Ph.D. or research programs at IIT Delhi are given research assistance.
  • Any student enrolled full-time in IIT Delhi’s research-based programs.
  • Students who can work roughly 20 hours a week are given a minimum of INR 15,000 every month.
  • Students enrolling in the MS Research Program receive a monthly stipend of INR 24,000 for eight hours of labour.

  • Guest Houses: IIT Delhi offers well-furnished guest room facilities to accommodate visitors, such as bedding, air conditioning, Wi-Fi connectivity with attached bathrooms, and dining services. The rooms are maintained with high standards and facilities to ensure a comfortable stay for guests, including visiting faculty, alumni, and parents of students.
  • Sports Complex: IIT Delhi has a wide range of sporting facilities, which includes sports tracks, and playgrounds. IIT Delhi has a 400-meter racetrack and a walking/running track on the main playground. Faculty and their families have access to a variety of facilities, including athletic fields, cricket, hockey, football fields, basketball courts, clay, and synthetic tennis courts, volleyball courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a snooker table, a gym with separate rooms for men and women, and athletic fields. Many of these facilities are near the Gulmohar guest house in the Student Activity Center (SAC), and a new sports facility is being built across from the hospital. The facilities are open during specific hours and can be rented for team activities. The office of the sports officer in SAC assists with team and activity registration.
  • Health services: To ensure the well-being of the campus community, the IIT Delhi Hospital provides medical and emergency services to students, staff and faculty.
  • Computer Services Centre (CSC): The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is equipped with high-performance computing facilities, the Center supports many computational studies and provides Internet services throughout the campus.
  • Cafeterias and Dining: IIT Delhi has multiple cafeterias and student messes which provide a variety of food options for students who come across from multiple Indian cultures.
  • Student Activity Center (SAC): The SAC is a hub for extracurricular activities, housing clubs, and societies that cater to diverse interests such as robotics, drama, and music.
  • Innovative and Research facilities: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi’s state-of-the-art laboratories and research centres, e.g. at nanoscale or Central Research Facility, have been instrumental in promoting breakthrough research and innovation.

IIT Delhi hosts a range of events and festivals to enrich campus life. Rendezvous is an annual cultural festival, one of the largest in India, that includes music, dance, theatrical, and literary events. Tryst is a technical festival that features engineering and technology projects, workshops, and contests. The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) hosts activities such as seminars, presentations, and competitions to promote a start-up culture. The Sports Meet is an annual event that celebrates athletic ability and team spirit.


IIT Delhi Hostel

Hostels at IIT Delhi are an important component of student life. The Board for Hostel Management (BHM) manages 17 hostels (12 for males, 4 for girls, and 1 transit accommodation for girls) which houses around 7000 of the 13000 students.

While rooms are assigned according to institute rules transparently, not all students—especially male postgraduate students—are guaranteed a hostel spot right away. While a mix of undergraduate and graduate students reside in the old, non-air-conditioned dorms, the new, centrally air-conditioned rooms are exclusively for non-M.Sc PG students, including PhD researchers.
